What We Do

OUR WORK

Yambi Community has been working to end period poverty since 2021 through education workshops, the distribution of reusable pads and sharing educational material around menstrual hygiene.

Period poverty

Yambi Foundations aims to provide sustainable solutions such as the provision of reusable sanitary pads to combat period poverty. In 2021 over 600 reusable pads were donated to 300 girls in partnership with the slum period project for the KKCA primary school in Kamwokya. Equipping women and girls with not only the tools but the information to create their own pads and potentially earn a living from it is one of Yambi Foundaitons’ goals for 2023.

Mental health

Men have been recorded to have the highest rates of suicide worldwide and Yambi aims to start conversations around this epidemic in 2023. Raising Awareness and tools such as therapy and community

Sexual and domestic violence

With the unfortunate influx of sexual and domestic violence cases reported during the height of the pandemic Yambi seeks to give refuge to survivors

While refuge presents in several forms, Yambi foundation works to provide mental stability through therapy to women that have suffered from abuse. In 2022 Yambi foundation  partnered with Frauen Initiative Uganda and Petro Zoe’s Home shelter to donate 12 sessions of group therapy for survivors as well as clothes for the mothers at the shelter.

Cancer

In partnership with institutions such as the Uganda Cancer institute, the Uganda Child cancer foundation and Tubayo travel, Yambi Foundation was able to raise 1,472 USD to donate the children’s basic needs for a better treatment journey.

Additionally, Yambi foundation also donated breast prostheses to 50 women survivors of breast cancer. Our focus shall be on means to provide a better sustainable quality of life for cancer patients and survivors.
